Project Drivers: TODD & ROCKY EVERS from ALFRECO’S
Plans were developed, implemented and completed, to fix the old seating on the beachfront of TAIPUTUPUTUPAHI Beach, Marsden Rd in Paihia. Also additional seating has been added and lighting along the footbath.
- New Lighting installed along the waterfront – the same as the tall box lights in Horotutu.
- Replace the 2 tired picnic tables at the Seaview Rd end of the beach with Macrocarpa slab tables.
- Rebuild the flat seating along the Marsden Rd waterfront – replace the timber and widen the seat surface area.
- Build seats around 4 of the pohutakawa trees along Marsden Rd – similar to those around the trees in the centre of Horotutu. Proposed locations: 2 at the Seaview Rd end of the beach, 1 opposite Only Seafood, 1 opposite St Pauls Church.
Completed to date are the new macrocarpa picnic tables, new tree seats, new tops on the old seats, all the old rubbish bins have been painted also and lighting has been installed. There was even a surprise element that was created by an inspired volunteer. The Paihia Peepholes.
All of this work was carried out over a series of four community working bees. Brilliant work has been completed along the waterfront by a dynamic crew of able bodied volunteers. The most popular was the 3rd Bee with over 30 people working merrily away together – chainsawing, drilling, digging, hammering, measuring, lifting, carrying, holding, sawing, concreting, scraping, wiping, sanding and painting.
