The FOCUS PAIHIA COMMUNITY CHARITABLE TRUST BOARD is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Trustee as the SCHOOL/YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE. There were a number of nominations received, all of an extremely high calibre, making it a difficult decision, however DARLING TANA’s experience, passion, commitment and communication abilities stood out.
Tireiniama Darling Tana resides in Waitangi. She was born in Ngapipito, in the rohe of Ngatihine. She grew up mainly in Northland but also attended other native schools around the country. She is a mother of three and grandmother to seven grandchildren. She also has many whangai children and mokopuna.
Prior to moving back to Waitangi in 2012, Darl lived in Auckland where she was a voluntary mentor at two South Auckland Colleges whilst completing a Bachelor Degree in Social Work Studies at Te Wananga O Aotearoa. Darl graduated in 2011, becoming the Manager of the Manukau Urban Maori Authority’ Mentoring Team. The group provided mentoring to Mangere College, Aorere College, Otahuhu College, Penrose High School and Manurewa High School. Darl loved every part of working alongside students from those schools and also took adult students from T.W.O.A and Manukau Technical Institute on placement as mentors.
Both she and her son are founding members of Nga Morehu Whaiora, formed specifically to provide support, advocacy and to lobby government for changes to discrimination against Whaiora and Whanau. She was a founding member of Senior Net Kaikohe. Darl has been a trustee on three Marae and is currenltly a member of Ngati Rahiri Maori Komiti. Darl has been a Tupuna Whanau Rep for 37 years and in the past has been a Trustee on Te Tii B3 Trust.
Darl is a highly community conscious person who enjoys being involved in activities which are beneficial to young people. She said she that she “is honored to accept the position as Trustee on the Focus Paihia Board.” Welcome Darl!
