Wharf Bollards Project

The old looking bollards which block cars from driving onto the Paihia Wharf (between the I-Site and Great Sights) are going to be getting a facelift. Instead of just painting them, Katja looked across the ditch to Australia and found some amazing examples (see right) of wooden carved bollards, whereby the bollards are ‘people’ and are a fun way to enhance otherwise dull obstacles.

The project to highlight the bollards includes design and painting by a local artist DARINA CINCUROVA and carvng by a local woodcarver, currently being sourced. The figures will relate to some of our local sea faring tourist attractions, e.g. Diver, Sailor, Fisherman, Kaihoe (waka paddler) and give tourists and locals another great photo opportunity.
